Race Pipes

Racing Beat offers a full 304-stainless steel catalytic converter replacement pipe for RX-8 racing applications. The weight of this pipe is 10 lbs.

This mandrel-bent 3" OD racing pipe is a direct bolt-on replacement for the stock catalytic converter section.

This pipe utilizes a genuine OEM rear mounting flange for a secure fit to the stock (or an aftermarket) exhaust system. The race pipe is equipped with a sensor fitting for the oxygen sensor. (Note: Placement of the sensor in the pipe will cause the "check engine" light to be illuminated, but performance and engine systems will not be affected.) Removal of the OE catalytic converter/presilencer section will result in a noticeably louder exhaust tone.

Applications: 1999-2005 Miata (Excluding: 2004-05 Mazdaspeed Turbo & 1999-03 Automatic Transmission Equipped Cars) - This fully 304 stainless-steel high-flow Miata race connecting pipe replaces the factory mid-pipe and integrated catalytic converter. Intended for 1999-2005 Miatas, this connecting pipe will meet the demands of any high horsepower normally-aspirated or aftermarket turbo-charged engine. Note: This connecting pipe is not compatible with the factory mid-chassis brace that came equipped on the 2001-05 Miata - this brace must be removed prior to the installation of the Race Connecting Pipe. Resonated Catalytic Converter Replacement Pipe - RX-8 owners have discovered that a installing a non-resonated catalytic converter pipe on a RX-8 can produce a surprising loud exhaust tone. If you require a more modest, quieter exhaust tone, then the Racing Beat REN.V2 resonated race pipe is the perfect solution.

Racing Beat offers a 3" OD fully stainless steel catalytic converter replacement pipe with dual resonators for RX-8 racing applications. Fitted with two (2) rotary-designed resonator units selected specifically for the RX-8 chassis. Each resonator is tightly packed with stainless steel wool for optimum sound suppression and tone quality.

Down Pipe with Presilencer - 1986-88 RX-7 Coupe Non-Turbo (w/Manual Transmission) - The 1986-91 13B 6-port engines, in stock form with the factory fuel injection, produces similar power gains with either our Header/Presilencer combo or our RX-7 Down Pipe/Presilencer combination. If you have no intentions of installing our Holley intake System (or any other aftermarket carb set-up), we recommend the use of the down pipe/Presilencer combo since it offers a slightly quieter exhaust note, is easier to install and less costly. If you are intending to upgrade the intake or fuel injection system, the Header/Presilencer combo offers the greatest performance potential.

The Down Pipe/Presilencer combination incorporates a 2.5-inch O.D. Down Pipe and our perforated stainless steel core and stainless steel wool-packed Presilencer to boost power approximately 13% - an 18 horsepower increase on a 1987 RX 7- and maintain a comfortable exhaust noise level during full power driving.

The replacement front pipe connects to the factory exhaust manifold, and the presilencer connects to the factory Y-pipe, replacing all catalytic converters and intermediate tubing. It is not possible to use just the down pipe to replace only the catalytic converters. The use of the presilencer is required to complete the connection to the y-pipe. Although a short length of tubing can be substituted in place of the presilencer, we do not offer (or suggest) this due the unacceptable increase in exhaust noise.

The RX-7 presilencer is equipped with an exhaust back-pressure tube for correct operation of the 6-port actuators. Installation of this requires the removal of the air control and check valve and the air pump. This kit includes all necessary mounting hardware, air control & check valve cover plate, and gaskets (1 Back Pressure Pick-up and 3 Replacement Pipe-to-Presilencer gaskets). If the exhaust manifold outlet or Y-pipe gaskets are needed, refer to the "Exhaust Gaskets" section of the site for suitable replacements. We also offer the Down Pipe separately for those building custom exhaust systems.

Converters in this catalog are based on Executive Orders issued by the California Air Resource Board and must be used in accordance with this information. In California, it is illegal to select a catalytic converter for installation based solely on vehicle weight and engine size.
