99-05 Miata High Flow Air Intake Kit (56499)
Racing Beat offers a Cold Air Intake Duct for use with the Racing Beat High Flow Intake (1999-2005 Miata NT models) that is both functional and attractive! Intended to function with the Racing Beat High Flow Intake Assembly on all 1999-2005 non-turbo Miatas, the Cold Air Duct allows the intake to draw ONLY cooler ambient air into the intake duct.
When our engineering staff was modifying our High Flow Intake Kit to function on the revised second generation Miata (1999-05), they noted that Mazda had placed a sizable opening in the engine compartment just behind the driver's side headlamp. Much to our luck, the inlet end of our original High Flow Intake was positioned almost directly over this opening!
After modifying the High Flow Intake Kit to fit this revised application, we set our sights on developing a Cold Air Intake Duct to utilize this new found source of cooler intake air. After debating on whether to use plastic or fiberglass material, and consulting with several manufacturing shops, we reviewed many prototypes and finally arrived at a finished product.
Each duct is produced from hand-laid fiberglass mat and finished a high-gloss black gel-coat finish. The resulting product is a beautiful piece that is both strong and lightweight. Fitted to the exact contours of the engine compartment, and finished with an interlocking insulation trim, the precision fit of this intake virtually eliminates the introduction of hot engine compartment air into the intake.
Intake Temperatures
As with all Racing Beat parts, we undertook extensive testing during the development of this kit. Prior to testing, a hole was drilled into the end of the K&N filter and a temperature sensor probe was inserted, which led to a digital temperature gauge in the cockpit. During test runs at 55 MPH (79 degrees ambient air temperature), intake air temperatures were recorded up to 15 degrees cooler inside the air filter with the duct installed!
California Emissions Notice
This intake duct has received an emissions exemption from CARB (California Air Resource Board). Each intake duct is supplied with a compliance decal, which lists the applicable Executive Order number and the specific application. Simply install this decal under the hood of your car prior to your next tail pipe emissions test.
